One thing that many brides & grooms or parents fail to execute smoothly in planning a wedding is managing the budget. Once you have set the date for your wedding, you should start planning out your budget right away. Kenapa? Agak² je tak boleh ke? No, tak boleh. Because without a budget planner, you'll be spending away without keeping track of all your expenditures and chances are that you'll end up spending more than you can afford. Some people even end up taking personal loans just to pay for their wedding and that's not good. Not good at all. Think about it: Do you really want to start of your marriage having to pay for an unnecessary loan?
We've set the date of our engagement/wedding. What do I do now?
Awesome! You should start planning your budget now.
Why is budget planning so important?
Weddings are expensive affairs so planning your budget is very important. You don't want to end up spending too much on one area and then end up not having enough money to spend on another area. Planning your budget out in advance will help you keep track of all your estimated and actual expenditures.
How do I start planning my budget?
Start by creating a budget plan. You can also download the free engagement & wedding budget planners I have created from the links below. Once you've decided on how much you are willing to spend on the entire wedding eg. RM35,000.00 you can start filling in the blanks in the budget planner. The budget planners that I have created are extremely detailed and cover almost every aspect of a wedding so be careful not to miss out on any of the details.
I've exceeded my budget. What do I do now?
Alright. Say your budget is RM35,000.00 but after filling in the budget planner your estimated cost has risen to RM40,780.00. What you do next is carefully look at your estimated cost again. You will definitely find areas where you can cut your cost. Eg. You estimated RM10,000 for catering. Perhaps you can re-negotiate with your caterer and get them to give you a discount. Do note that sharing your budget with your vendors while you negotiate is a good thing because most vendors are willing to give discounts to work around your budget. This scenario can pretty much apply to any other areas. Before you know it, you'll be able to cut your costs here and there and you'll be able to meet that RM35,000.00 budget of yours.
You see, by having a budget planner, you'll be documenting every single cent that you are spending. And at the end of the wedding you'll know exactly where all your money went. AND, if you behave; the budget planner will help you stick to your budget. Happy downloading and happy planning! ;)
